<em>100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics</em> Book Release was held in Beijing Winter Olympic Village

On January 14, 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics Book Release was held in Beijing Winter Olympic Village. 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics is a Handbook of Learning Chinese for athletes, coaches, referees and other people from various countries during the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. It is developed and published by Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC )and People's Education Press(PEP).
Prof. Ma Jianfei, Director-General of CLEC; Huang Qiang, Chairman of PEP; Yang Jingfeng, Deputy Director of the Olympic Village Administration and Operations Department, and Hou Kun, membership of the Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission attended the conference and delivered speeches. Mr. Song Yongbo, Deputy Director-General of CLEC; Zheng Wangquan, Deputy Editor-in-chief of PEP; and Jiang Qi, Secretary of Committee for Discipline Inspection of PEP, and other guests attended the release ceremony.
Prof. Ma Jianfei introduced that during the preparation of Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, CLEC has carried out a series of activities themed "CLEC by Your Side, as an Olympic Guide", and the development of 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics in cooperation with PEP is one of the important parts. This book selects 100 commonly used Chinese sentences to meet the basic needs of delegations from different countries to participate the competitions during their stay in China . Through introducing the Winter Olympics venues, it conveys the concept of greenness, inclusiveness, openness and justice of the Olympic Games. Through sharing the Olympic feature stories from all walks of life, it presents the common goal that we all share, pursuing unity, peace, progress and inclusiveness. Through presenting Chinese cultural elements, the beauty of Chinese traditional culture and the achievements of contemporary China are presented in a realistic, objective and vivid manner. Its multilingual version in Chinese, French, and English is easy to learn for speakers from different countries, and the affiliated audio e-book can help users learn to speak Chinese anytime, anywhere.
Prof. Ma Jianfei said that CLEC has carried out a series of people-to-people and cultural exchanges while editing 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics. Firstly, interactive Chinese Character zones were set up in Winter Olympic Villages of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. Secondly, short videos on the theme of Winter Olympics were shot to help foreign audiences to know better about the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games in a relaxed and fun way. Thirdly, hundreds of young people from more than 30 countries were invited to participate in the "Cloud Chorus for Beijing Olympic Winter Games" online. Fourthly, more than 330 young people from 16 countries were organized to participate in the "Draw Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics & Learn Chinese" activity. Fifthly, 15 online Chinese summer camps were held for more than 2,000 participants from 25 countries.
Mr. Huang Qiang said that, last September, after receiving the task of editing 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics, People's Education Press took actions immediately, giving full play to its experience and excellent resources, uniting experts and professionals and technical personnel from the Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, CLEC , Peking University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, China Radio International and other sides, gathering the wisdom of all sides, and making every effort to carry out the preparation work. The planning and preparation of this book adheres to internationalized expression, and focuses on promoting people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and the participating countries of the Olympic Winter Games through language learning and cultural mutual appreciation, so as to enhance the affinity of China's image and the appeal of Chinese culture.
Mr. Yang Jingfeng said that the series of activities, jointly carried out by CLEC and the Beijing Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, "CLEC by Your Side, as an Olympic Guide", have promoted people-to-people exchange and bond between China and other countries in the world, and enhanced the understanding and friendship of the young generation in China and abroad. We are grateful to CLEC and PEP for their contribution to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and their support for the Olympic cause. 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics is informative, easy and practical, meeting the daily communication needs of athletes from various countries, and is also a good book of Olympic knowledge and Chinese culture, showing the real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China.
Yang Jingfeng also said that the 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics would be given free to athletes and officials in Olympic Villages of Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou; he would recommend Beijing Olympic Museum to collect 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics and The Basic Chinese 100 for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games edited in 2008 for permanent preservation; he also suggested that all the fruits of the work done by CLEC for the Olympic Winter Games should be compiled and submitted to the International Olympic Committee and taken as a part of the Olympic heritage and record in the history of the Dual Olympic City.
Hou Kun shared his experience of the Olympic round-the-world trip and his understanding of Olympic concepts. He said the book helps to build up the understanding of world, peace and Chinese culture, so that the athletes, coaches and judges from all over the world, especially these young athlete, could bring their understandings back to their own countries. The books and the stories told will continue to convey their influences even after the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, and play a role in connecting the hearts and minds of people around the world.
At the launch ceremony, leaders from the Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, CLEC and PEP, unveiled the new book 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics, and CLEC donated 7000 copies of 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics to the Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. High-level language service is the basis of high-quality hosting of the Olympics, and is also the embodiment of the international image and competitiveness of the host country and the host city. It is expected that 100 Chinese Sentences for the Winter Olympics and the series of activities of "CLEC by Your Side, as an Olympic Guide" will better contribute to spreading the Olympic spirit and telling China's story.
