On November 25, the Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills at China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. held a plaque unveiling ceremony and started operation in Male, the capital of Maldives. Hu Zhiping, Deputy Director-General of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of the Ministry of Education, He Fen, Minister-counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Maldives, and Mao Bao, General Manager of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. in Maldives, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Bai Jizhong, President of Shanxi Conservancy Technical Institute, delivered a speech through video.
Hu Zhiping pointed out that to better serve the "Belt and Road" Initiative and help China-funded enterprises go global, in 2021, the CLEC worked with vocational colleges and China-funded enterprises overseas to create the brand program "Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills". By providing enterprises with order-based "Chinese + TVET" training, it helps enterprises cultivate local compound talents proficient in language, culture, and skills, and improve their production safety and efficiency, widely welcomed by enterprises. The Center launched in Maldives is one of the achievements made by the summit between the heads of state of the two countries this January. He hoped that the Center while providing training for employees of the company, could actively radiate and serve other China-funded enterprises, Maldivian partners and surrounding communities, meet the needs of all parties for learning Chinese and understanding Chinese culture, create a better development environment for enterprises and inject new vitality into the promotion of China- Maldives economic and trade cooperation and the development of China- Maldives community with a shared future.
He Fen pointed out that on the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Maldives, and the 10th anniversary of the Maldives' participation in the "Belt and Road" Initiative, the inauguration of the Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills at China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. in Maldives is of great significance. She hoped to see it effectively meet the urgent needs of foreign employees in their enterprises for "Chinese + TVET", and make new contributions to deepening and implementing China-Maldives relations.
Mao Bao stated that since entering Maldives in 2010, China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. has created over 1,000 job opportunities for the local community, unanimously praised by local people. The Center jointly organized by China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. and Shanxi Conservancy Technical Institute will enhance the localized management capabilities of Chinese enterprises, and improve the cultural identity and sense of belonging of local people to Chinese enterprises.
Bai Jizhong stated that Shanxi Conservancy Technical Institute will accurately meet the international talent demand of China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. in Maldives, and improve the professional skills, Chinese literacy, management ability and other aspects of foreign employees, building the Center into a new model of "Chinese + TVET".
Before the ceremony, the CLEC delegation discussed with some principals of China-funded enterprises in Maldives how to run a Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills well.
