"Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills" at Tatay Hydropower Station in Cambodia: Cultivate Outstanding Technical and Skilled Talents for Cambodia

Supported by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of the Ministry of Education of China, "Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills" at Tatay Hydropower Station in Cambodia is a program jointly established by the International Education Institute of North China Electric Power University, and Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Limited, a subsidiary of China National Heavy Machinery Corporation (CHMC). As a characteristic program of "Chinese + TVET", it works with overseas enterprises, universities, and vocational colleges to provide international Chinese language education and vocational skills training.

On September 28, 2023, the unveiling ceremony of the "Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills" at Tatay Hydropower Station in Cambodia was held in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, marking its formal operation. The event was attended and addressed by Hu Zhiping, Deputy Director-General of the CLEC, Zhao Haiyan, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of China in Cambodia, Bi Tianshu, Vice President of North China Electric Power University, and Wang Jue, Deputy General Manager of Cambodian Tatay Hydropower Station of CHMC.

Invested, constructed and operated by CHMC, Tatay Hydropower Station is a major electricity supplier in the national grid of Cambodia. The station broke ground in 2010 and began its operation in 2014, which plays an essential role in the clean energy and economic growth of the country. The hydropower station is expected to employ more than 3,000 local employees, and the "Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills" will offer courses in Chinese language and vocational skills, so as to cultivate and train versatile talents proficient in language, skills, and culture for the enterprise.

The Center was designed to cultivate high-level technical and skilled talents for Cambodia, assist Chinese enterprises in "going global", enhance the friendship between Chinese and Cambodian peoples, and strive to achieve the cooperation concept of "extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits".

The International Education Institute of North China Electric Power University will rely on the Center to offer courses in Chinese language, Chinese culture, and vocational skills in Cambodia. These courses will develop teaching and curriculum resources related to the "Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills" program, and train local teachers in Chinese language and "Chinese + TVET" teachers.

The "Center for Chinese Language and Professional Skills" at Tatay Hydropower Station in Cambodia supports Chinese enterprises to develop overseas with talent reserve and contributes to local talent cultivation and vocational skills enhancement. It is a model of cooperation between China and Cambodia in education and cultural exchange.
