For the purpose of accommodating the demand for Chinese language learning, facilitating educational and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world, and enhancing friendship between the Chinese and foreign people, the Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers Program was officially launched in March 2004 with the approval of the Ministry of Education of China. Since the launch of this program, more than 68,500 volunteers have been dispatched to teach in 151 countries and regions. They have defined the volunteer spirit of service with their deeds, portrayed their youth with hard work and efforts, and contributed a magnificent verse to the international Chinese language education with their stories.
To better tell their stories, we have set up five columns: "Volunteer Experiences", " Volunteer Vlogs" and "Photo Stories" are to present the teaching work and overseas life of the volunteers; "Micro-lecture Showcase", to display some of the winning entries of the Global Chinese Teaching Micro-lectures Contest; "Q&A ", to provide information related to readers' concerns.
You are welcomed to read their stories and get to know the lovely volunteer Chinese language teachers.
Fresh graduates with bachelor's degree or higher, master candidates students, previous volunteer international Chinese language teachers, in-service teachers in universities, secondary and elementary schools.
You are eligible to apply, and a bachelor's degree and diploma are required prior to dispatch.
Applicants are expected to be affiliated with a dispatching entity, which generally refers to the universities they are currently studying in or the universities, secondary or elementary schools they are employed by.
According to the regulations, expatriate volunteers are not allowed to pursue academic degrees overseas during their service, and it is recommended that you apply for overseas volunteer position. Expatriate volunteers need to have completed examinations and training in China prior to dispatch.
To re-enroll for a new position, it is necessary to complete the departure settlement procedures as soon as possible and to obtain the recommendation of your dispatching entity and sign the agreement. Please contact the local program officers for details.
Volunteers of Confucius Institutes are recruited by the Chinese partner institutions according to their demands, so please follow the relevant information released by the Chinese institutions.
Candidates who meet the application requirements for the positions are eligible to apply. Applicants who major in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (International Chinese Language Education) or can speak the local language are preferred for some positions, please check the specific requirements for the intended positions.
Preference will be given to holders of the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages under similar conditions, but it is not a requirement for application.
In principle, volunteers going to Europe, the United States and Oceania should have their English level scoring 425 in CET-6 or equivalent, and volunteers going to other regions should have their English level scoring 425 in CET-4 or equivalent. Priority is also given to those who are proficient in the language spoken in their destination countries. The selection tests are also arranged in the corresponding languages to the extent possible.
Volunteers are not allowed to engage in other part-time paid jobs or distance Chinese teaching during their volunteer teaching period.
The platform has been updated as https://pmplatform.chinese.cn, please contact your former country program officers for the operation of the system data on the platform in order to re-enroll.
(1) Please be sure to fill in Chinese characters in the name column of the Chinese application form, instead of using pinyin; for the English application form, please fill in the standardized pinyin of your name.
(2) Be sure to fill in true and accurate information, especially phone number and email. You will not be able to receive notifications of the selection test if you fill in the wrong information.
(3) Please make sure to fill in your personal information carefully as it cannot be modified after submitting. If you need to make any corrections, please contact your school or the provincial department of education(education commission) to return your application so as to fill it out again.
Generally, the school/department of education shall complete the reviews in about two weeks after the deadline of registration, and the related progress can be checked in the system. The CLEC will notify the applicants through the phone number or email address provided during registration after reviewing and finalizing the candidates for the examination according to the job requirements. After the incumbent is admitted to the volunteer program, the treatment will be carried out in accordance with the relevant regulations. For the previous domestic salary and treatment or returning position, please negotiate with your dispatched entity by yourself.
